Continue to assess the situation, your surroundings, and your options. Choose the most suitable action among those described below.<\/p>\n<p><b>Option 1. Run!\u00a0 If there\u2019s a way out, run!<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Alert people around you<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Get out, no matter whether other people follow you or not<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Leave your personal belongings behind<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Keep your hands visible<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Don\u2019t try to move people who are hurt<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Alert people you meet to the danger<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Once you\u2019re out of danger,\u00a0call 911<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Option 2. Hide! If you can\u2019t run, hide in a safe place<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">If you can\u2019t run, protect yourself by finding shelter, hiding, or creating a barricade if you can.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Stay away from windows, doors, and high-visibility areas with lots of glass<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Lock the doors or barricade them with furniture<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Don\u2019t stay behind the door:\u00a0spread out and lie on the ground<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Close and lock the windows and shut the blinds<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Be quiet<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Turn of all lights, screens, and projectors<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Put your cellphones on silent mode and only use them to communicate with emergency services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Make sure you\u2019re out of danger,\u00a0then call 911<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Don\u2019t open the door to anyone, the police will come and get you when the danger has passed (check with 911 before opening the door if you\u2019re unsure)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">In this type of situation, don\u2019t evacuate if the fire alarm goes off, but watch for signs of fire (smoke, flames, smell) and continue to reassess your options based on the situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0Option 3. Fight<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As a last resort, if you don\u2019t have any other options and your life is in direct and imminent danger, defend yourself, fight, and try to stop, disarm, or weaken your assailant using whatever means at your disposal (chair, extinguisher, etc.).\u00a0Once you\u2019re safe, call 911.<\/p>\n<p><b>Other information and instructions<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Alert people to the presence of an armed individual or active shooter, since evacuating may not be the best option for everyone and may put people in harm\u2019s way.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">When the police arrive, stay calm and don\u2019t make any sudden movements. Put your hands in the air and follow the instructions of the authorities.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The law forbids the presence of weapons and fake weapons in department of educational\u00a0 spaces. If you see a weapon, you must report it by\u00a0calling 911.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">3.
